What did DOSM actually report?
The Department of Statistics Malaysia released its Q3 2026 advance GDP estimate on 16 October. The economy grew an estimated 5.3% compared with the same quarter a year earlier, following 6.0% growth in Q2. These are growth rates, not changes in home prices. They do not mean the economy shrank between quarters.
The construction sector grew 6.0% year on year. DOSM identifies non-residential buildings, particularly data centres, and specialised construction activities as supporting that growth. A construction-sector headline therefore cannot be read as a measure of demand for newly launched apartments.
These are advance estimates, not the later preliminary release. DOSM schedules its more detailed Q3 GDP publication for 18 November 2026. Use the latest 6.0% Q2 comparison in this release rather than the earlier 5.8% advance estimate; the two figures belong to different release vintages.

Does a data-centre story create tenants for your condo?
Not on its own. The GDP release does not identify how many workers need rented homes near a selected project, what they can pay, or how long they will stay. Temporary construction accommodation and a long-term household tenancy are different demands. Do not apply an assumed rental premium just because a data centre appears in a growth story.
For an investment shortlist, ask who would rent your exact unit and why they would choose it over another available home. Compare achieved rents for genuinely similar furnished units, competing supply and vacancy periods. If you only have asking rents or a sales projection, keep that uncertainty in the calculation rather than presenting it as income.
When should you continue buying, and when should you pause?
The following is Jack's decision framework, not a prediction of the next price move. A household can reasonably continue its search in a growing economy without accepting every asking price.
| Your position | Practical next step | What would change the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Own stay: the home fits your daily routine and comfortable budget | Continue comparing and arrange a viewing. | Check the selected plan, written quotation and delivery timing before committing. |
| Own stay: you are stretching only because you fear prices will rise | Pause the booking; reduce the budget or compare another location. | A workable monthly commitment and cash reserve, not another macro headline. |
| Investment: the case depends on unverified rent or a future employer | Obtain local rental evidence before choosing a unit. | A credible tenant brief and holding-cost calculation that do not rely on automatic appreciation. |
| You need to move soon but are considering a future handover | Compare an inspectable completed alternative. | Unit-specific possession and fit-out timing that meet your household deadline. |
Compare the home you would live in, not two economic stories
For a family comparing RIA Sunsuria and Linari Damansara, the useful question is how the selected home, station approach and total written quotation fit the household. Open the existing comparison and inspect both options if they meet your budget. National GDP cannot choose the better layout, tell you how a unit feels, or justify a premium for your particular routine.
Use the same discipline elsewhere in the Klang Valley: choose a real alternative with the rooms and commute you need, compare prices on the same SPA or nett basis, and include recurring ownership costs. If the case only works after assuming higher resale prices, acknowledge that it is a price-growth bet rather than a home that already fits your needs.
